Win £1,000 with eBay and Small Businesses

Find Small Businesses Powered by eBay

There’s a joy to be found in the small and mighty.

Small businesses are powering the nation from garages, bedrooms, spare rooms, make-shift warehouses and beyond. Extraordinary businesses run by just ordinary folk. Each with a story of unrivalled drive and ambition. Each one changing how we shop.

Here at Capital, we say, power to the 300,000 eBay sellers doing it their way, who show any one of us, a mum, a dad, a kid on the street, can have success with a seed of an idea and drive.

The iOutlet

Students, James and Matt, started the iOutlet off the back of an idea when Blackberrys were very popular, iPhones had just arrived and were very expensive and the thought of repairing either was completely unheard of. By learning the skills to repair them, James and Matt could see there was margin in repairing and reselling. As used/refurbished devices continue to outsell new devices, with this year being the first year of that stat, they will again have to use agility to move and adapt to the market.

Hunt’s Vintage

Set up by 18 year old Zachary Hunt, who was diagnosed with Autism 3 years ago, he realised he wanted to progress his career without going down a traditional people-focused route. After re-selling a vintage bucket hat, he discovered a gap in the market for buying and selling vintage items and memorabilia. He now has his own physical vintage warehouse store as well as continuing to sell on eBay!

Pennyworths Sweet Shop

Beginning as a high street business 11 years ago in Truro, Cornwall, Pennyworths turned to eBay after deciding to wind down the business and close the storefront in 2020. However, eBay helped give them the confidence to renew the lease on the shop in Truro. They have adapted it to become COVID secure and have now re-opened, gradually ramping up to now be trading full-time. Pennyworths want to prove that growing online can also support the High Street!

Mookykickz

Mookykickz is a sneaker reseller who started from his bedroom. Stocking UK-based luxury footwear and apparel, the business was founded in 2017 and sells coveted brands such as Nike, Yeezy and Trapstar.
